About salukes

The machine is named after the term "salukes" which is used by the popular female Belgian students at TUDelft to greet one and another. This warm and kind gesture inspired us to name this machine after this saying. (For all you English speaking geeks out there, salukes is pronounced as "Sah-luh-cus".)

The hardware for salukes was gathered with the help of the following folks :

  • Ahhing donated a brand new 3com 905 network card.
  • Remco den Besten helped us pay for the casing and is responsible for public affairs.
  • Anson Ringenoldus who supplied two times 128 MegaBytes of memory. Which brings the total to 384Megs!
  • Remco van Mook @ Virtu Secure Webservices found and delivered us the casing for a very good price!
  • Hubris Nederland donated a 60GB harddisk and a fdd unit. (note: they dont know this yet :) )
  • Jasper Spaans found a Gigabyte 6BXD mainboard with 2 pII-350 processors! 1400 Bogomips! W00H00!
  • Chrome donated an Abit BP6 Motherboard with two Celeron 550Mhz Processors and 128 MegaBytes of memory. This piece of hardware has stopped working.
  • All of this is fitted in a chieftech 4u casing, payed for by Jasper Spaans and Dave Aaldering who also filled in the missing objects as graphics adapters, more diskspace and the neccesary cabling to tie the stuff together.
Salukes is a work in progress project, so if you are able to help out, by donating hardware or other resources, please let us know!

The machine is connected to the internet by the kind folks at ISP-Services and is running Debian GNU Linux.

For those of you who like to monitor this host, here are the phpsysinfo for salukes and traffic statistics.
